Jordan Mosaic and Floating in Dead Sea

Duration: 9 hour(s) - Location: Amman

The King's Highway is the world's oldest communication route still in use.

Travelling along the road, the first stop is Madaba, an ancient town that was mentioned in the Bible at the time of Exodus in about 1200 BC. The city is best known for its spectacular Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics and is home to the famous 6th century mosaic map of Jerusalem and the Holy Land. With two million pieces of coloured stone, the map depicts hills, valleys, villages, and towns as far as the Nile Delta. Other mosaic masterpieces are found in the Church of the Virgin and the Apostles and the Archaeological Museum.

Not far away is Mt. Nebo, the most sacred site in Jordan. His Holiness the late Pope John Paul II declared it one of the official Millennium 2000 pilgrimage sites. Its first church was built in the late 4th century. Recently, six tombs from different periods were found hollowed out of the rock beneath the mosaic-covered floor of the Mosses Church.

The final stop is the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth.
